About UsBeeThere is a grassroots and community driven phenomenon, originally created as a labor of love by music-and-tech-geek Carl Eklof. BeeThere employs cutting-edge technology, and contributions from music-community members to bridge the gaps between the digital realm, and the real world of people who like to get together and rock-out. BeeThere is dedicated to the musicians of all genres, who sweat it out on the road, providing us with culture and inspiration, and to the people who have provided a time, space, or means for artists and society to come together, and of course to YOU for supporting the arts. Thanks for using BeeThere! -The BeeThere Team
HistoryThe idea for BeeThere was conceived around May 2002, when a show go-er and touring musician himself, Carl, became fed up checking the calendar pages of many club sites, depending on word-of mouth, or frequently missing great shows. As a touring musician, he also saw the difficulties in spreading the word about shows. Fortunately, he was also a software developer who had been focused on search technology for many years. So the journey began by writing an application that pulled all of the information together. The application was very useful, and he wanted to share it with others, but it was too customized for Carl's specific interests. He envisioned a more general application, that would be as useful for others as it was for him, but Carl was already very busy, working at a start-up, so the project had to wait. A few years later, the start-up had grown out of start-up mode, and Carl was ready for new challenges. So he moved to New York and began looking for work there. He was also eager to see shows there, which renewed his desire to build his generalized concert listing application. So he decided to create BeeThere. He roped in some friends, and started building more music-industry partnerships. The team had a vision of something completely new to the world, but should have always existed. This time the application was created, not just for Carl, though he uses it a lot, but to be useful to everyone interest in music, including YOU. Most of the very cool features and partnership-contributions planned for the BeeThere website are still in the works. The BeeThere team is on the job though, so check back frequently. A lot of amazing new features are coming soon! |
